Centice Corporation releases data on PASS Rx system performance

Promising results demonstrate new medication verification product’s potential

Morrisville, NC (May 27, 2009) – Centice Corporation, the pioneer in drug verification and safety, released a whitepaper today entitled Preliminary Evaluation of a New Product for the Rapid and Accurate Verification of Dispensed Medications in the Retail Pharmacy Environment. The whitepaper highlights product requirements and initial performance data for a prototype version of the company’s recently introduced PASS Rx pharmaceutical authentication sensor system product.

“We were thrilled with the prototype’s ability to accurately distinguish a large formulary of unique drugs, as well as the quick speed of analysis”, said Prasant Potuluri, Ph.D., Chief Technology Officer of Centice. “More importantly, continued improvements during product development have led to the recent successful market introduction of the PASS Rx product,” he added.

Increased script volume, resource constraints and manual subjective verification methodologies can result in greater risk of medication errors in the pharmacy. PASS Rx is the first and only product that utilizes patented spectroscopy and machine vision sensor technologies to confirm the accuracy of a retail pharmacy’s dispensed solid dose medications in a matter of seconds.

“The data and results shown in this whitepaper underscore the PASS Rx product’s unmatched potential to improve quality in the retail pharmacy. Likewise, continued improvements, for example, the recent addition of Medi-Span® images, along with a continued expansion of our proprietary drug database, demonstrate that we remain on track to provide increasing value to our customers,” said Ray W. Swanson, President and CEO of Centice.

Centice technologies have additional applicability beyond the verification of solid medications in the pharmacy, and the company has plans to develop future products for liquid medication verification and counterfeit drug detection.
